Psycho II is one of the best horror sequels ever made. It's pretty much what I would have invisioned an 80's Hitchcock movie to look like. It has the suspense, tension and humor that characterizes a lot of his films. It is also quite brutal and horrific.
Anthony Perkins was once again outstanding as Norman Bates. He brought a great deal of sympathy to the character. I loved the toasted cheese sandwich dialog between him and Mary. Both sad and funny at the same time. Perkins was born to play this character.
I also loved the score by Jerry Goldsmith. Especially the opening credits theme. Very beautiful. I remember hearing that Anthony Perkins was hesitant about playing Norman again, but he changed his mind once he heard that piece of music.
And for the record, I also rate Psycho III very highly. It a very underrated film.

I just rewatched it & forgot how VERY VERY good Psycho II is. Although the original is a classic by an iconic director, this one had VERY big shoes to fill...and it certainly was a worthy sequel! Story was fleshed out very well and it covered all corners
SPOILERS
although could've done without the whole REAL mother coming out of nowhere bit, an added twist that wasn't entirely necessary IMO..an added twist that is better off ignored. I believe Psycho IV ignores this.
In fact, the entire series is really good. III got a little camp, but was a fun flick in its own right, and IV was another great story, and Henry Thomas of E.T. fame was an excellent young Norman!
Gave it 4 1/2 stars!
