Discuss The House of the Devil

I love the cinematography, the story, the throwback look, all of it! It's fun and creepy and so well done. Greta Gerwig and Tom Noonan are excellent, as is the actress who plays Samantha of course! I watch this every October and always enjoy it so much. Rosemary's Baby is my all time favorite horror film and this is a wonderful modern take on that story/themes.

I remember the first time I watched this (5 or 6 years ago), I thought it was just okay (a bit slow) and disliked the ending.

But then I watched it again a couple years later, and loved it. I could actually appreciate the retro filming style and the slow-burn pace. I'm still not totally in love with the ending (hospital scene), but it doesn't bother me as much anymore.

I'm glad I gave it a second chance!

I liked it more the second viewing too, and have been hooked ever since.

This movie and Babysitter Wanted from the same year are both on my favourite movies list to watch around Autumn/Halloween.

I did too.

It looks like a movie from the early 80s, but reminds me more of Satanic movies from the 70s. Slow burner, relies on creepy atmosphere.

I really liked the scene in the hospital at the end. Would def watch it again. Ti West has done some really good genre pics
