Beggars of Life is a little known masterpiece. I think it is Louise Brooks' best American film, and certainly, she did some of her finest acting in this William Wellman directed work. In 2017, I provided the audio commentary to the Kino Lorber DVD-Blu-ray release, and also wrote a book on the film, Beggars of Life: A Companion to the 1928 Film which featured an introduction by Wellman's son. Interestingly, in his introduction, Wellman Jr. stated that among his father's silent films (which included the Oscar winning Wings), his favorite was Beggars of Life.

@LouiseBrooksSociety / Thomas, hello! I missed ever noticing this thread when you posted it early last year. I discovered it now only after watching the very interesting 1998 TCM documentary about Louise and seeing how good this movie looks to be.
This definitely is one of Louise's movies that I especially want to add to my excellent vintage films DVDs collection. (So far, of her movies, I have Diary of a Lost Girl, The Show Off, and am about to, finally, purchase Pandora's Box.) I hadn't ever known, till now, of Beggars of Life, or that there's a KINO DVD in existence of it, so look forward to acquiring it, as well as to listening to your audio track, which I have no doubt is very insightful.
By the way, I think you'll like this Louise Brooks tribute thread I created on her TMDb page.
