Sure, but I watched Last Crusade again recently and it was fine. "Crystal Skull" was awful from the start.
I believe, had I watched the first two on a regular basis, I would have no issues watching The Last Crusade.,,, but it has been about 30 years since I saw Raiders of The Lost Ark and the Temple of Doom.
I have never seen Crystal Skull... going by the title, the film doesn't sound very promising.
My top favourite sci fi :
Blade Runner.
Man Who Fell to Earth. ( I read recently that there is a sequel but I have not seen it)
The first 3 Indiana Jones movies were great. But as I was watching Crystal Skull in the movie theater, the one thought that kept running through my (alledged) mind was "this film was a waste of EVERYTHING. No more Indiana Jones movies please, Mr. Spielberg." But would Steven Spielberg listen? NOooooooooo.......

Crystal Skull was pretty bad, but "Crusade" is good and you don't want to miss out on Sean Connery as Indy's father.

You convinced me .. I just finished watching it . Honestly, I enjoyed it 😋…just one problem the film crashed towards the end.
Harrison didn’t look old at all and I loved to see him with his father. And they went to Venezia!
There were so many fun lines and scenes.
Tapestries scene
he blends in / he got lost in his own museum
No ticket and he threw him off the airship
The turning wall in the castle ( reminded me of Frankenstein Junior)
He chose poorly
Sorry Elsa died 😕
HELP .....Henry saves Indy, everything’s tumbling down, Henry turns around and sees the old knight .. at that point, the film crashed.. how does it end ???

"Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)" might not have been popular for different reasons (no spoilers here), but it was still a financial success in 2008, earning more than four times its production budget.
It was the number two best movie of the year. Batman "The Dark Knight (2008)" was number one.
Except for "The Dark Knight (2008)", there were more people going to see "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)", than to other movies in 2008, like for example Marvel's "Iron Man (2008)", James Bond's "Quantum of Solace (2008)", "Mamma Mia! (2008)", "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008)" and "Twilight (2008)".
Of the Indian Jones movies, "Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)" and "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989)" are my favourite. "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)" with Short Round is horrifically entertaining and "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)" was average with a 65- year old Harrison Ford - he looked older - still doing some 'safe' stunts. It was especially the ending of the latter that I liked.
the old knight said that the potion of eternal life only worked within the temple..I thought the father was "doomed 'to stay in the temple seeing he took the potion to stay alive.
I thought its magic would stop working if he left the temple.

I'm
The father drank from the Grail (and Indy pour from the Grail onto his father's wound) to save his life...not for the purpose of eternal life. Once the father was healed he was good-to-go.
However, IF the father had been seeking eternal life, then I think you are right...he would have had to stay in the temple.
Believe it or not; I have no problem picturing William Shatner in the role of Indiana Jones...same for Harrison Ford as Jim Kirk. Both roles share many (didn't say all) of the same character traits and both actors pull them off equally well:
Can Think On His Feet
Courage
Exude Confidence
Honest (In Indy’s case: “ish”?)
Intelligent/Smart
Leadership Skills
Likeable
Loyal
Man’s Man
Swagger
Women Magnet
Risk Taker
Questions Authority
As for the actors themselves; they both had a great screen presence in these roles.
But...
Of course, Shatner would have been too old for the Indy role by then.
Also…
Maybe Shatner wouldn’t have brought quite that same light, comedic touch to the Indy role as Ford. But other than that, I think a young Bill Shatner would have made an excellent Indy.

That has seemed a bit off though, since didn't the brother(s) of the knight who remained behind, also live an extraordinarily long time after leaving him and the Grail? At least that's how I seem to remember it. They weren't fully immortal, but they didn't survive through the desert and such for 75 to 100 years or something like that, presumably also without food or water with them, without help.
I should probably watch those parts again.

Well, "Crystal Skull" had a sort of tear-jerker ending that might have led people to forget how little sense the rest of the movie made.
