Not Only No...But Heck No! The Prime Directive should not be abolished!!!

Gordon Taylor (Charlton Heston): The Planet of the Apes (1968). Upon seeing human inhabitants of the planet for the first time…

"If this is the best they've got around here, in six months we'll be running this planet."

This statement is a prime example of the kind of “might make right” behavior the Prime Directive is designed to prevent.

Just think; how different their state-of-mind would have been if they had been exploring under the principles of the Prime Directive. Then, whatever they’d hoped to accomplished, would have had nothing to do with taking over the place AND subjugating the populace.

ON ANOTHER NOTE: I thought the way their situation quickly went from “might make right” to “shoe on the other foot” was profound. So I was really surprised that Taylor’s “...running this planet.” comment didn’t make any of the movie’s "best quotes” lists that I could track down. I think it right up there with Taylor's commentary at the end…after seeing "Lady Liberty”.

Guess it's hard to beat out: "Doctor, I'd like to kiss you goodbye." (George Taylor). Which (for some reason) made EVERY list I found. scream_cat

Of course, in "Beneath..." they "interfered" BIG-time.
