I hear the death toll from the 9-11 attacks are climbing every year!

No, that's not happening at all.

WOW what a shocking show. The incompetence of the Soviet bureaucrats was frightening & degusting at the same time.

You have a lot of incompetence with bureaucrats all over the world, also in the western world. It's a system immanent problem. That's a main reason why centralized energy production (or transformation if you like) with fission tech is at least problematic.

How many people died as a result of THREE MILE ISLAND? ...333 estimated cancer related. Fukushima Nuclear Accident suggests no deaths yet, but another source reported several deaths. This TV show suggests > 90,000 deaths may be attributed to Chernobyl , but immediate results seem limited to a few dozen deaths.

I do feel this show is a bit overrated. It is very, very good. Exceptionally well made and I really enjoyed it. But all the 5 star reviews, everyone going mental over it and 9.5 on IMDB? That's The Wire and Breaking Bad level ratings. And as great as it was, what it had to say wasn't as profound as The Wire. To be that high it really needs to be absolutely life changing.

I can't see comparing another crime drama with drug kingpins , to this nuclear terror drama -orchestrated by climactic incompetence of the Soviet Government and its bumbling bureaucracy. On the one hand its the drug world , but this is contrasted with the potential of a European wide economic environmental catastrophe that could spread through the northern hemisphere that lasts for hundreds of years...?

I wasn't really comparing them in that sense. It's more that I was comparing the reactions and reputations. And The Wire and Breaking Bad are just the obvious ones that spring to mind that have that kind of reputation. I'm not criticizing Chernobyl at all. I couldn't find fault with it. But to garner that kind of praise I would expect something absolutely revolutionary.

I learnt so much from The Wire: how a city runs, how a multitude of systems in a society work and how everything is connected. Regardless of the subject matter I took a lot more away from it than I did from Chernobyl. But that's not to say Chernobyl isn't incredibly well made.
