I really wanted to like this movie. After reading all the rave reviews I was expecting more from Marilyn Monroe but alas to me she still came across as a blond bimbo. I wasn't impressed with Lawrence Olivier either. I've watched him in much better movies; Rebecca to name one.

Monroe often gets touted as a bad actress but that blonde bimbo persona is not easy to pull off.

Yes, she definitely did give good performances, particularly when she stuck with her typecast specialty persona, that no one did better than her. And of course she showed in Bus Stop and The Misfits that she definitely could act in serious drama.
As any Shakespearean character, on the other hand, I don't think she'd have been able to persuasively pull it off.

I read somewhere that she was totally opposite in real life, quite smart and astute. Why base an acting career as a dumb blonde. It stereotyped her for life.

Sad but true.
