Man that dude was creepy. The character was just so weird and complex I never quite had him figured out.

The way I interpreted him was that he wasn't human. Not in a supernatural sense but in a mental disability sense. He's almost like a wolf in sheep's skin. The manner of his speech, his semblance of etiquette and politeness, makes him charming to his colleagues but it's almost like they are all aware that there's something off about him. He's merely adopting a persona that he feels is amicable while not fully invested in it. He's trying to be human to appease other humans when really, he has no intention of playing by the rules of man. He's just an animal hiding behind a mask he created to best match the human experience. Best performance by Jake by far. Yet, the man didn't even get an oscar nod.

That's an interesting analysis. It makes sense.

He came across as a sociopath.

If I had a 2 minute conversation with him I would have him pegged as a serial killer

Narcissistic personality, risky behaviors, questionable moral and ethical compass, rationalizing illegal acts? Yep. Pretty much.
