I felt so bad for Warren Beatty and Faye, also the producers of La La Land. When the guy was like "Oh, we lost by the way"... Ouch.

This was staged just as much as the streaker incident in 1974.

So sad...I was on equal stance for winners, but I couldn't bring myself to even see the Moonlight producers say their speech. I was just putting myself in the role of the winners of La La Land - I would not have handled it as good as they did.

You could see Warren was trying to figure it out. If only he had said something to Faye before handing her the envelope. Faye, in my opinion jumped the gun by announcing La La Land. Could see not see the same confusing words that Warren saw? I blame Faye!

This has probably already been mentioned, but how the hell did the La La Land people have enough time to get up from their seats, walk down the aisle, get up on stage, and begin their speeches without someone stopping them? Wasn't the mistake realized by the Oscars producers almost immediately? Don't they have a process in place in case the worst should happen?
Something went very, very wrong. If the mistake had been caught earlier, people could have been spared some humiliation, and the Moonlight people wouldn't have had their moment overshadowed by this mess.

And deny us (the world--me) THIS MUCH
But seriously...
We are talking about a group of people who lives are choreographed. What to say. When to say it. Where to eat. What to eat. Who to be seen with. How to dress. How to walk. How to talk. How to sit. When to smile. They spend so much time in "La La Land" that when something real happens...THEY HAVEN'T GOT A CLUE! about what to do.

The Oscar producers would have no clue that anything was wrong. Allegedly, only the 2 PWC people in the room knew who the winner was and hadn't been properly briefed as to how to handle that kind of situation. Also, presenters should be briefed about what to do if something looks wrong on the card. The BP card would not have had Emma Stone's name on it. Beatty should have signaled for help as soon as he saw the name on the card.
The fiasco could have been avoided by simply having only one set of envelopes. The reason given for duplicate envelopes is that the holders of the envelopes don't know if the presenters are entering from stage left or right. That explanation makes no sense, can't they plan that in advance?

Yeah....isn't the Oscar show rehearsed? They should know ahead of time who is entering stage left or right even if stand-ins are rehearsing. Seems like very shoddy planning to me. In any case, this will probably never happen again. I can just see the presenters taking extra time to check those envelopes before they go onstage.

the two producers of la la land were so tactless when they found out... especially the clean shaven bald guy giving his speech when he knew they had lost and then the bearded bald guy cutting off Beatty to order the Moonlight people on to the stage, rather than let Beatty do it with some class and dignity...
came across as horribly entitled people and the farthest thing from graceful, which is a word i heard used a lot in coverage of the mishap...

Apparently none of you are old enough to remember the time Roger Moore had to offer Marlon Brando's Oscar to a Indian?
