I'm not choosing sides either way, but what that article tells me is that Besson is not aware of any sequel; however (according to Variety) the CEO of Eurocorp said there may be something in the works.

Neither Besson nor the CEO is the final answer. But knowing a little of how film studios work, I'd put more trust in what the CEO of the studio says than the director of the 1st film. Who knows, maybe the studio plans to hire a different director and they didn't tell Besson (it happens ALL. THE. TIME). So I wouldn't axe the rumors unless we get a clear statement from the studio Eurocorp that the CEO misspoke or was misquoted.

Hm, understandable... but it should be "best practice" for single movies not to become collections because of MAYBE there will or won't be a sequel rumours. This should be a bit different from already existing collections according to my understanding. How many years do you give that collection (it's already two years) before that CEO line of text wears off? For now, it looks like: Oh wait, somebody said something... no concrete plans, no budget, no second source... but we create a collection and wait for a decade (?). Is it possible, that a sequel will happen? Oh yes, but is the chance of this bigger than that it won't happen? If the answer is no - then there should not be a may-be-collection on TMDB. Hmmmm.... I let you decide - for me, the answer is obvious (no matter how big some users' wish may be).

BTW, I did not find the original variety interview online - only a 3rd party report about it.

I totally agree that single movies oughta stay that way ...unless the writers come up with something really interesting/different (don't stone me but I actually thought 2010 was pretty good because it was so different from 2001). But yea rumors are crazy these days, and it's usually just fans wishful thinking. How many ̶y̶e̶a̶r̶s̶ decades have they been talking about a Crow reboot, even showing actual filmed footage, but it never happened (thank god lol).

PS you're right I couldn't find the supposed Variety quote of the CEO either. This could be a total urban legend from start to finish
