Discuss Casino Royale

David Arnold scored every Bond movie from Tomorrow Never Dies to Quantum Of Solace. I thought that his scores were awesome and that of all of the Bond movie music, he came the closest to the late, great John Barry.

Any other opinions?

I actually remembered ten minutes ago that I was supposed to watch LALD. I'm going to try to this weekend, but I have to say unequivocally that Rosie Carver is the worst CIA agent in movie history.

Still haven't rewatched it yet? thinking

@Russ007 grinning I watched twice, but I'm ashamed to say that I fell asleep both times. Still, I will watch it again and get back to you.

@Russ007: I've never understood why none of David Arnold's soundtracks weren't nominated for an Oscar, but the first one Howard Newman does (Skyfall) did. Oh well, at least David Arnold and the late, great Chris Cornell got a Grammy nomination for You Know My Name.

I actually forgot about Newman's score being nominated for an Oscar. I agree that it's a bit ridiculous because Arnold understands Bond music like no other living composer. Any of his 5 scores are better than SF's imo.

The Academy Awards have always been a game of 'who knows who' and Newman had already established himself as an Oscar worthy composer years beforehand. So when Skyfall came out he didn't really need to promote his work to get it nominated, since the academy had a favorable opinion of him not only as an artist but as a person. Arnold is more UK based so he just doesn't have the same exposure that Newman had sadly.

@Russ007: However, David Arnold won a Grammy for the soundtrack of Independence Day.

True. I see he's also received an Emmy for Sherlock so it's even stranger that his Bond work would be ignored by the Academy

@Russ007: David Arnold is SO talented! In addition to the Bond Soundtracks and Independence Day Soundtrack, Arnold also did the soundtrack for Stargate (terrific film) and his theme for that movie was used for the Theme Song for Stargate SG-1, which has the distinction of being the longest running American Sci-Fi TV Series (ten seasons).

Loved that show BUT it is not the 'longest running' American Sci-Fi TV show. That distinction would go to Futurama (if strictly sticking to Sci-Fi), it has 12 seasons so far. Then it would be either 'The X-Files' & 'The Twilight Zone' with 11 seasons each.
