Skyfall was just a mcguffin chase to set up a mommy issues moment for Bond... the movie was saved by Deakin's exquisite photography and Dench's presence adding weight where there is none...

Casino Royale was a far better movie
No doubt that CR is far superior to Skyfall but both are still brilliant. Regarding Skyfall; for me it feels like the least "Bondian" Bond film, but that's also its strength because it works in isolation. It's not only a great JB film, but also a great film. (I hope that made sense.)
I guess I'm being a little sensitive lately because a week ago I posted in one of the Bond boards that I thought Spectre was okay but it seemed like "Daniel Craig's Greatest Bond Hits" and someone posted back that because I had the nerve to say that about Spectre, it proved that I hated ALL Bond movies (WTF? )
Let me guess, was it that guy who's always banging on about how rubbish Craig is?
I actually thought Spectre was deliberately "Bond's Greatest Hits" and structured as a capstone to Craig's tenure. Although I liked him as Bond, I don't understand why they're trying to tempt him back after giving him such a great send off.
@M. LeMarchand Exactly! When you're watching Spectre, there are so many references aka tips of the hat from ALL of the JB movies that one can get a little dizzy trying to keep up.
I would also like to mention my favorite scene in Spectre, which is when Bond is sitting in the chair at the L'Americien (sorry about the spelling) and when a mouse who was minding it's own business comes out of a crack in the wall and what does Bond do? He interrogates it at gunpoint! A real WTF moment.
@M. LeMarchand : That was what I wondered about as well. But what I also am curious about is why was Craig given an Assistant Producer credit for Spectre? If Cubby Broccoli was still alive, that would have NEVER happened.
---------Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night------
@Renovatio : Regarding your comments about the photography on Skyfall, you're absolutely right. In fact, the photography on all of the Craig JB movies is awesome. I also loved the photography on The Living Daylights.

I don't know but it seems to be something they do to keep/get big stars on board. There's propably extra cash involved and they don't have to do much (but maybe get a say in things?). I suspect it's mainly an honorific, though. Both the leads on"Bones" have Exec P credits, as did the two leads on "True Detective" S1.
@M. LeMarchand : Yes, I kind of figured that that's what Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli did to get Craig to do Sprectre, especially after I read that he said that he'd rather slash his wrist than do another Bond movie.
The reason I mentioned it was because I read in one of those Bond books/magazines that come out whenever there's a new movie that one of the contributors mentioned that the two guys who have help write the last six Bond movies also wrote the first Johnny English movie, and he thought that Cubby Broccoli wouldn't have approved of that.

sigh... I'm well aware of the chronology.
If you need to write a dissertation about why a film is "intellectual" and has "deep embedded themes," something's terribly wrong in movie-land.

@MongoLloyd you have a good point. But what did you think about my choice for the best WTF scene in Spectre?
