"Based on" doesn't always mean exacting to the last minute detail, but hey, if this detail happens to be true, I'd only be all the more shocked that someone in her situation would act that way at all.

It's been a long time since I've seen this. I remember Erin going off on some guy. Are you sure she'd been hired at that point? I believe Erin's feistiness was supposed to add zest to the film.

As I said, "based on" leaves plenty of room for creative licence which, apparently, was put to good use.
