You can read about how the system determines the primary release date (and the year of a film) here. If there is a theatrical release date entered, as there is here, that date will take precedence over any other release type.
I get that. But many people watched Bad Trip in 2020. Look waht IMDB says: "The movie was accidentally released on Amazon Prime Video on April 17, and taken down soon after. It was up long enough to be downloaded and leaked on pirating sites". It was released in 2020, even though it was a mistake.

We are only taking in account official releases. An accidental release is not an official release.
