This is a good film until the unrealistic ending. The protagonist is deeply troubled and the writers wrap everything up neatly with one cathartic scene. Suddenly she is well and her compulsion is healed and she's happily on her way pursuing her life despite a trauma so deep she is self harming. just because she confronts her father a single time. Life does not work like that. The film is brilliant until someone-probably the studio execs- completely ruined the ending as they did with Fatal Attraction. Alex was a likable character and they turned her into a monster . IN this film this girl is doing extremely dangerous things she has a deep disorder that causes her to self-harm and they desire to make us believe that it simply goes away after confronting the source of her problem a psychopathic father a single time. We then see her on her merry way. It really is so ridiculous that it ruins the entire film The whole film is great and then it has a ridiculous ending.
