Discuss 65

The basic idea/plot seems really neat, but it's largely missed potential and they don't really do much with the idea apart from showing a few dinosaurs here and there. Most of the movie is just Adam Driver fumbling and bumbling around and it just isn't very interesting to watch. Not to mention this is one of those movies where the behaviour of the lead character doesn't make much sense and a lot of the time you are just shaking your head or laughing like when he decides to climb a tree with some weak/rotten branches and you can probably guess how that ends or how he decides to give some high explosives to some kid who doesn't even understand his language or standing in the middle of the room when a predator is stalking you so it can attack you from any direction etc. etc. Also I have to say that despite mastering space travel they had some really crappy highly advanced technology back in the day. I mean what's with this "advanced" perimeter warning system they use? It apparently goes BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP when danger approaches, but doesn't tell you anything about the location nor size or anything else of the danger and apparently also shuts itself automatically off when the building size imminent danger is right behind you. I guess it has some seriously advanced AI in it that thinks OK MY JOB HERE IS DONE. K. TNX.BYE. Also there is the "proximity scanner" that also seems completely incapable of showing where a danger is approaching and seems to work better as some kind of a high tech hologram VCR you can use to check out how you are doing in your fist fight against a velociraptor or check the highlights from said match.

tldr; just watch Stargate for a better experience. If you want Dinosaurs, though.....well tough luck....because those new Jurassic Park movies are total garbage.

Fun fact--even 65 million years ago they used the meter as a measure of length

Agree, this movie could've been much better with different choices. Making a point that it was Earth 65 million years ago is just silly while using obvious humans, English language and human technology. Best way would be just to show a mysterious planet with similar environment as pre-historic Earth, and using imagination while populating it with dinosaur type creatures. There was no actual point to make it Earth, it's just stupid and confusing. The Asteroid impact could happen on any such planet as well. So making it Earth was completely unnecessary. See Scavengers Reign how to do this the right way.

Another thing, the melodrama of the dead daughter is cringy and cheap. Such past baggage and how it affects his decision to save Koa is really boring. I would very much prefer to see him just a lone drunk pilot, lost to depression in the vastness of space, doing long cargo runs without any family attachments. Then to show how being drunk on the job causes him to miss the asteroid on his path and cause the crash, and how finding out the sole survivor makes him accept the responsibility and try to save her for personal redemption. This could be a better character arc than what we got and would make a better ending.

Obviously, the focus on Mills is too much, the movie would be better to focus more on the hostile world and dangerous environment than on facial expressions of an actor. Again, Scavengers Reign is a better example of how to do a "stranded on an alien strange planet" product. Overall, surviving on the planet while huge Asteroid is making his way to destroy most of the life on it, is a great setting for an exciting and entertaining movie. It's just that 65 was making all the wrong decisions and the result is just meh.
