you cant be wishy washy.

I tend to prefer oily or grizzled Sam Neill to his heroic characters, who can be a little on the bland side. He was a memorable antagonist in The Piano.

Having said that, he was very good opposite a possibly career-best Meryl Streep in A Cry in the Dark, and quite good as Merlin in the mini-series of the same name.
