Sam Neill is known for his role as Dr. Alan Grant in the movies "Jurassic Park (1993)" and "Jurassic Park III (2001)".
He played Damien Thorn in the movie "Omen III: The Final Conflict (1981)", John Ingram in "Dead Calm (1989)", Captain Vasily Borodin in "The Hunt for Red October (1990)", Alisdair Stewart in "The Piano (1993)", Colonel Geofferey Brydon in "The Jungle Book (1994)", Dr. William Weir in "Event Horizon (1997)", 'Sir' Richard Martin in "Bicentennial Man (1999)", Charles Bromley in "Daybreakers (2009)", Dr. Kyrie in "Escape Plan (2013)" and "Uncle" Hector in "Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016)".
Some other movies he appeared in are "Landfall (1975)", "Sleeping Dogs (1977)", "My Brilliant Career (1979)", "The Journalist (1979)", "Just Out of Reach (1979)".
He played Sidney Reilly in the ITV TV miniseries "Reilly, Ace of Spies (1983)", Agent Alvin Dewey in the CBS TV miniseries "In Cold Blood (1996)", Merlin in the NBC TV miniseries "Merlin (1998)" and "Merlin's Apprentice (a.k.a. I tend to prefer oily or grizzled Sam Neill to his heroic characters, who can be a little on the bland side. He was a memorable antagonist in The Piano.
Having said that, he was very good opposite a possibly career-best Meryl Streep in A Cry in the Dark, and quite good as Merlin in the mini-series of the same name.
