A much better actor than director - his performances in Brighton Rock and Seance on a Wet Afternoon are particularly memorable. That said, he did a fine job with Shadowlands, the only one of his films as director (of those I've seen) that I'd call memorable.

His younger brother David is my lifelong hero, though. :)
