This was extremely powerful. It misfires in some points (a huge moral blindspot, and the Stephen Fry cameo), but the central themes of the creeping horror of an unknown virus, the disappearance of the infected consigned to a lonely end amongst those they could never be themselves with and the surprisingly educational depiction of the horrors that can await those with a failed immune system really had an impact.

Perhaps most impressively, it is possible to hugely appreciate this whilst having little or no empathy for one or more of the main characters. It is series that seems to care most about depicting a time and a place and the impact of an incurable and deadly virus rather than manipulate the viewer emotionally to feel a certain way about certain characters.

I can't say I was in my comfort zone watching this, but maybe society would be an even better place if more people watched things that make them uncomfortable.
