Arsenal hosted Crystal Palace, a fixture the Gunners have dominated during the Premier League era, having won 10 of 13 encounters. The day's other game saw Bournemouth play Liverpool with the Cherries seeking their first ever win over the Reds in either league or cup.

Arsenal are unbeaten at home to Tottenham in the Premier League since 2010 and came from behind to deservedly win 4-2 in the corresponding fixture last season. Both clubs broke their transfer records over the summer in an attempt to bridge the gap at the top of the table. Everton and Wolves finished as the best of the rest outside the top six last season and have also spent heavily over the summer. Wolves won 3-1 at Goodison Park in the New Year, although the headlines went to a black cat on the pitch which held up play for several minutes.
