Why do you think Hopkins wasn't nominated for an Emmy, not even a Golden Globe? Because I think he did a wonderful job (and I don't know so much about acting skills) but sadly my opinion doesn't matter for Emmy nominations.
Why he wasn't nominated? He didn't deserved it, or too much competition?

Probably because the Academies hate science fiction. That's why Sir Patrick Stewart never won an Oscar during all the years he played Picard. Can you think of any actor who has won an Academy award for playing a science fiction character? Jennifer Lawrence got her Oscar for SILVER LININGS, not for playing Katniss Everdeen.
