Frankie Drake Mysteriesについてのディスカッション

I've almost finished watching season 3. Toronto policing sure must have deteriorated since the days of Murdoch, Brackenreid, and Crabtree. Most episodes are about corrupt or dismissive police officers. One would think that Canada would have become more progressive since the Victorian/Edwardian era, especially after their soldiers' and citizens' contribution to World War 1.

I know the writers are trying to make a point about sexism and racism in 1920's Canada, but even Brackenreid mellowed with time.

This is just another of recent bad shows from the CBC. I think they were hoping to have to Miss Fisher, and at her very best Frankie is a low end Miss Fisher wannabe. Seems like lead actress Lauren Lee Smith does not even try to stay tune with fashions of the time the show is set. Some time it looks like just wearing her own clothes from a few season back! Her hair style is certain not styled to the period. A drake is male duck and Frankie at time comes off more as a early 20's dyke then anything else!

We always hear how Canada is so much more progressive than the United States. They abolished slavery first. Women got the vote first, etc, etc, etc. The picture painted by Christina Jennings' Murdoch Mysteries and Frankie Drake Mysteries, especially the latter's season 3, is quite different. Apparently Canadians are just as racist and sexist as Americans. Not to mention all the major American inventions were created in Canada first. lol

I agree though, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Miss Fisher worked in 1920's Australia. But Frankie Drake in Canada? Not so much. A cheap knock-off.

In the latest episode that aired The Guilty Party. Frankie says she drives a Tin Lizzy which is a T Model Ford. However there is floor gear shift lever shown. The T Model Ford did not have a floor shift, You had the gas/throttle on the steering column like on old farm tractors and you had 3 pedals on the floor clutch, reverse, and low/high gear. Low gear the pedal was only released half way up and full up was high gear. So only two forward speeds not the 3 or 4 where you have a floor mounted shift lever. The Model A had a 3 speed transmission with floor shift but they did not come out until 1928 and ended with 1931 models. The car shown was clearly not Model A as it did not have the gas cap in center front of the windshield on the cowl! There are just so many things that are off in the show for me it is maddening to watch sometimes. Also in the current season Frankie's new Italian boyfriend is suppose to be driving a fancy racer, yet if you look at radiator shell you see ford in script embossed into the tin under the yellow paint. This was a kit car that were sold in the mid 70's to be used on T Model frames. Also with Frankie they have so few paying clients how dies she afford the large office and living area even in the early 20's you still had to pay rent, phone, and power bill! They are always out eating or drinking which means she have to work far more cases then she does. Also don't get me started on Frankie's mom that is whole another vat of wrong.
I much prefer to watch Miss Fisher it more accurate when it comes to how things are set, Even the reboot Miss Fisher Modern Mysteries is better then Frankie Drake.
