The novel it's based on precedes "Girl" by a few years, though from what I've seen of the show they're concentrating on the early part of the book.
When the book came out, there was lots of board spamming by people who'd read it and it was GREAT!!! Somehow before publication, so I wasn't predisposed to like it and I didn't...

Sorry, Passage.
It started well as a Crichtonesque thriller, then went into "girl with powers goes on the run" (the bit the show seems to be concentrating on) and then leapt forward into sub-"The Stand" territory. Haven't bothered with the other 2 books.
Not read "Girl", but enjoyed the film.
