Discuss The Equalizer

First Equalizer was a white Englishman

Second Equalizer was a black American man

Third Equalizer is a black American woman

What next? White English woman? That would give a certain symmetry.

I did see some of those shows, perhaps most notably Herman's Head. I followed Profiler too, it's worth mentioning that the DVD set omits an episode, "I'll Be Watching You" from season 1, because they were unable to get the music rights to the song by The Police. But it can still be shown on TV because those rights were already contracted. I recorded the whole series from the Chiller Channel, I think it was.

A couple more:

Civil Wars: Mariel Hemingway and a couple of other no names starred as divorce lawyers. A couple of years before NYPD Blue, Bocchco got Hemingway naked on network TV

The Job: Marked the beginning of Dennis Leary's transition into acting, following his exposure as rampant borrower of other comedian's material. The show today is most remembered today not for it's own merits, but for the central role in played in this sparring match between Greg Giraldo and Dennis Leary

Class Of '96 Whoever can identify the future 90s icon in that scene gets a metaphorical pat on the back

Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson). Watched a couple of episodes last night .

Well done, Brat!!! Where did you find a couple of episodes of Class Of '96?

Not that one, The X-Files. I figured you would get that since I called her Dana?

I was half f-cking with you(logic would dictate that you most likely were referring to TXF. It's highly unlikely that episodes of Class Of '96 are readily available, much less that the show is remembered well enough for anyone to devoted themselves to watching a couple of episodes one evening)and half being serious. Recently, Hulu has put up some very obscure shows for a limited time, then taken them down just as rapidly. I was wondering if Class Of '96 happened to be one of them

I wasn't sure, sometimes it's hard to figure which 'mech' you are. Plus I haven't finished my morning coffee yet.

I have all of Young Americans on tape.

Also Deepwater Black, perhaps most notable for the presence of Nicole de Boer.

Also Catwalk. Season 1, anyway. Season 2 was never completely shown and apparently is still tangled in rights disputes.

Not following you here, Brat

You're morning coffee wouldn't have been morning coffee when you posted this message, Brat. Not by EST anyway :)

I didn't get up until 11:00 am, I posted the comment about 11:30 am, so I was still waking up.

As for the 'which mech' you are/were, sometimes your comments seemed to be posted by an entirely different person. But we've had this conversation before (a long time ago).

Sounds like you taped almost every show on TV, during the days of The VCR, Knix. Never heard of Deepwater Black or Catwalk. Looked up the latte; there are some episodes on YT

Yes, and I've noticed in the past that some of the YT clips appear to have been uploaded by people who bought tapes or DVDs from me. grinning I recognized the station promos etc.

I recorded "Deepwater Black" from the Trio cable channel, which apparently is only an online thing now. (If it still exists at all. I haven't checked for a long time) They changed the name to "Mission Genesis" for showing on SciFi Channel.

Farscape: One of SyFy's first successful scripted shows, quite popular with audiences and critics alike, ran for a few seasons. Rarely mentioned today

Funny you should mention that, I just found it on Amazon Prime and started re-watching it!

Sorry I just can't watch puppets, especially not in a show that's supposed to be serious.

Trio itself has sadly gone the way of many of these barely-remembered shows we've been discussing. Ironically enough, they actually had a month devoted to shows they labelled "Brilliant but canceled"

It's weird, I don't remember that channel at all (even after reading the wiki article)?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trio_(TV_network)

I don't think it was carried by a large number of cable systems, but I got it from Dish Network back in the day. The Wiki article isn't real clear about when Trio stopped being available via online streaming, but that isn't very important.

They had some blocks of "brilliant but cancelled" and I remember at least from time to time they would allocate some time each day for a different rotation of those shows.

Trio was apparently more or less a Canadian operation, which explains why they showed Deepwater Black which was a Canadian TV production. (Shown on YTV.) They could have - and should have - also shown Catwalk but may have decided against it because of the problems regarding season 2.

I felt the same way when I watched the pilot episode, wrote it off as Buck Rogers with Muppets!

I was convinced to stick with it and am glad I did, it's an excellent series.

A lot less puppets than I feared there would be too!

Nikki Cox was in an episode of Star Trek TNG, "Pen Pals," and was in all seasons of "Las Vegas" with James Caan.

Carla Gugino was not in Surface, but she did another sci-fi series, "Threshold," which got only one season but had a lot of potential. It also had Brent "Data" Spiner and Peter "Game Of Thrones" Dinklage.

Episode 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VN6SE1XYkb0

Sounds like it might be sped up just a bit, but not terribly so.

There was another series at the same time as "Surface," I think it was called "Invasion." "Surface" started out with an interesting idea/premise, but for one reason or another it turned into hash like "Lost."

Yep that's the one. "Surface" was on NBC and "Invasion" aired on ABC, each episode 2 days later than "Surface." "Surface" was more weird, but suffered from that.

I saw a few of them, Mann and Machine was fun to watch mostly cuz Yancy Butler was hot. Did you ever see Witchblade?

Let's not forget her turn with Jeff Fahey in The Hit List And speaking of Fahey, does anyone remember The Marshal?

I remember liking something with Jeff Fahey, but looking through his imdb credits I can't remember what it was.

I saw Machete - and have a digital recording in my collection too, along with the original Grindhouse stuff - but I'm thinking of something more sci-fi-ish, just can't figure out what it was from the titles on his list of credits.

But not "lawnmower man" which always struck me more as faaaaantasy (said derisively).

It seems like some kind of submarine was involved. Hopefully I'll figure it ou.
