Bij het overlijden van hun vader erven Ernie en Lars Smuntz een keramisch ei, een bijna lege kist Cubaanse sigaren, wat verbleekte zilveren lepels, een oude koordenfabriek en een bouwvallig huis dat er plompverloren bij ligt op een schier onmetelijke vlakte.
