The finale was daft, but I read suggestions that the US Navy objected to one of their own being depicted in a negative light (although, if true, they were seemingly relaxed about one of their own being depicted as a sociopathic racist).

The scene where the lead is picked up from walking in the rain also defied belief.

A pity because the mood, the incredibly sparse score and the general performances were all pretty top notch. It really could have been spectacular.
