Phillip Reed and Hillary Brook star as a boss and his star female reporter as they try to take down a gambling hall crime boss. They trade wisecracks and snips at each other but get the job done. The premise is almost like a sequel to His Girl Friday, albeit without the screwball comedy element and rapid-fire dialogue. If the similarities aren't obvious enough, there's even a reference to a "Hildy Johnson." Big Town After Dark is not a classic like His Girl Friday, but enjoyable enough on its own right and as an homage of sorts.
