Watching tonight I found Lee's performance outstanding. I admit he did not become the great picture-poster icon Glenn Strange became as the monster. But Lee's performance was far from just a brute. He(Lee) conveyed so much meaning without ever having said a word. Watching his creature as the film progressed the monster got more expressive and silently said more and more. Brilliant acting job.Lee surpassed Strange, Lon Chaney Jr. and even Bela Lugosi as the Monster. I have to put his performance as just equal to Karloff's (but not superior). Somehow, I cannot imagine Lee's creature ever being called "Frankenstein". He is just the Monster!
PS Yes. Most of the posters marked "Frankenstein" were of Strange as the Monster not Karloff.
