Kaitlyn Dever, who would've been 20 or 21 when this film was made, demonstrates here that she has considerably more range than what she's probably best-known for, the laugh-track hemmed youngest daughter Eve on the somewhat formulaic TV sitcom "Last Man Standing".
In "All Summers End", she plays Grace, a teen struggling through the death of her older brother while simultaneously experiencing the yearnings of her first romantic love, the object of which is Conrad, played by Tye Sheridan. There are tastefully-shot scenes of sexual experimentation between the two, as well as an equally-tender sex scene.
As a typical teen rebelling against her parents, Grace occasionally uses profanity, and there are some heart-wrenching scenes where she angrily, sorrowfully, and tearfully fights with her parents. Parents of teens could probably relate to many of the scenes in this film.
This movie did not get good reviews from critics, but the supposedly-substandard writing, for the most part, I feel only reflects the awkward speech of teens trying to discover themselves and make their way in the world. On the TMDB scale, I'd give it a 3 out of 5.
This film was released unrated; based on the occasional use of profanity, and the aforementioned-scenes of sexual experimentation, based on the U.S. rating system I'd give it a PG-13 (though you do see the two main characters in their underwear, there was no outright nudity).
Dever has advanced significantly in her acting ability (her performance, in a more minor role, in the film "Detroit" is also noteworthy), and those wishing to see a young actor maturing into more dramatic roles may want to check this film out.
