Fine leading cast and good supporting players as well, with lots of suspense. Definitely worth watching this good example of noir from a year (1944) that was notable for great noir films.
And no description could do justice to the scenes with Elisha Cook playing the drums. They have to be seen to be believed. (Sort of reminds me of some scenes from Reefer Madness.)

I saw the film several years back, but I don't remember it that well. What was so great about Elisha Cook on the drums? Was s/he really talented on them?

Go to YouTube.com and search "phantom lady drum solo" and it'll be the first search result, about 2:19 in length.

Thanks. GREAT solo. I'm really surprised that I forgot about it.

Yeah, it has sometimes been referred to as orgasmic (for the drummer). Sorry I didn't just furnish a link before, but I was on a device where it was hard to copy/paste the URL. For anyone else who is interested, here it is.
