Discuss Wonder Woman 1984

Every second you watch this atrocity is like a cut. A cut on your senses, a cut on your intelligence, a cut on your love for movies as an art. If there would be such thing as a crime against art, a crime against cinema as an art form, this movie would be most vicious and most heinous crimes in a recent history. And if we can put people in an art jail for committing such crimes, Petty Jenkins would get a life sentence for crimes against cinema and Gal Gadot for crimes against acting.

Words are not enough to describe the horror and the disgust I felt when watching with complete disbelief this idiocy, this huge and stinking piece of crap. And I am talking not just about the stupidity of the plot and the appalling dialogs that deserve to put the writers of this, if you can even call it that, screenplay to life of forced labor of breaking huge stones with a heavy hammer all day long and feeding them only with water and harden bread you can't even chew. I am talking about basic understanding how to direct a scene, how to move actors in the frame, how to edit and how to connect the scenes to a logical and plausible flow. I am talking about hiring actual actors to do the job of acting, not just posturing and looking to the horizon with a blank face. God damn it, I am so angry that such movie even exists.

Every second of this movie is an assault, an attack on intelligence, a stab of cringe into the soul of anyone that loves movies and storytelling. And don't give me that crap about "mindless fun" of blockbusters that only want to entertain. I know all about this, I watch silly and stupid movies all the time and I like many of them. But there is a difference between the fun silliness of such ridiculous movies as Fast and Furious, or even stupidity of movies you forget 5 minutes after watching them, and between movies like WW84 which intend to harm the viewer with the level of violent attack of an unleashed psychopath. That scene in which Barbara is violently attacking the would be rapist and kicking him over and over again, that's what Petty Jenkins is doing to the viewer of this movie for the entire duration. And she is enjoying it too.

These people belong in art jail and I wish they would never get to act or make another movie again for this horrific art crime.

LOL How about you tell us how you really feel?

Seriously tho, I myself don't have high expectations of these sorts of movies. I don't mark them down because they aren't Three Colours: Red. And I don't mark them down because the characters aren't the way I prefer them. I really don't get comic book purists. It's comic books made into movies. If someone takes that stuff seriously to the point where they are offended by how, for example, The Joker is depicted, they might want to relax a bit.

Having said that I do expect a popcorn blockbuster to be a fun ride. And WW1984, just isn't. There's nothing actually funny about fashions from another time. It only becomes funny when someone, like Disco Stu, is obliviously out of date. The fashion gags worked in the original Wonder Woman for reasons other than the idea that being different to today is funny. It isn't. No normal person laughs at a picture of someone from another period just because their clothes are different. In WW1984 that stuff goes on and on and on.

And the first half hour, well it feels like an entire hour. We get it. They have a tournament. Relevance to the story? Zip. Seemed like an excuse to bring back cast members from the first movie.

And the effects? Definitely sub standard. How can a movie that cost 200 million to make have such awful effects?

And whoa, what a really silly story. To be clear, I'm ok with silly. It's about a woman who lives forever and can dodge bullets ffs. If silliness ruled me out then I'd never have watched it in the first place. But this is pretentiously silly. It's one thing to save the world; quite another to have some weirdo psychobabble about being careful what we (literally!) wish for. It felt like being forced to listen to a lecture on moral philosophy written by a 10 year old.

I hate to go all Comic Book Guy, but I think this is the worst Superhero movie I've seen since they first came to the big screen with Superman in 1978. So yeah, worse than Superman IV, Batman & Robin and even Catwoman.
