Discuss Wonder Woman 1984

Item: Wonder Woman 1984

Language: en-US

Type of Problem: Incorrect_content

Extra Details: That synopsis isn't accurate at all. The one on IMDb is better: "Rewind to the 1980s as Wonder Woman's next big screen adventure finds her facing two all-new foes: Max Lord and The Cheetah."

Hi, unfortunately copying from IMDb is not allowed. If you come up with another suggestion, feel free to re-open. Thanks.

The one on the official site is "Fast forward to the 1980s as Wonder Woman’s next big screen adventure finds her facing two all-new foes: Max Lord and The Cheetah." https://www.warnerbros.com/movies/wonder-woman-1984#about

I don't know why one is rewind and the other is Fast forward, but whatever.

That one would work since it's from the official site. However, since another moderator locked the current one we should wait for more opinions here. I'm neutral as to which one is best.

Hm, I just watched the movie, and in my opinion both synopsis' are not good for TMDb:

1.) "Wonder Woman comes into conflict with the Soviet Union during the Cold War in the 1980s and finds a formidable foe by the name of the Cheetah."

The movie has almost nothing to do with the Soviet Union and the Cold War. And Cheetah is never actually called by this name, not even in the end credits (she's only credited by the name Barbara Minerva). By the way, when you google for this synopsis, it is used by several cinemas around this world who show this, so it is also an official synopsis. But a really bad one, in my opinion.

2.) "Fast forward to the 1980s as Wonder Woman’s next big screen adventure finds her facing two all-new foes: Max Lord and The Cheetah."

The problem with this synopsis is again the name "Cheetah," but it also includes a technical reference/info to being a movie ("next big screen adventure") which we usually try to avoid on TMDb. It's not a big mistake, but it's also not a good overview, because it doesn't really give an overview about the plot.

I'm hesitant to suggest a better one; I'm not really sure what this movie is actually about... crying_cat_face

And there's at least one other important thing to decide for TMDb! As far as I can tell, they only used the stylized title "WW84" on screen, never the long title "Wonder Woman 1984". The stylized title appears at the beginning at approx. 11:16 min into the movie, then at the end before the credits at 2:25:32 min for the second time, and for a third time at the end of the end credits at 2:30:43 min. I think, according to our rules, the original title should be "WW84."

Thanks for your input Janar!

I would hate for us to use the hashtag title, but since we have moved ourselves into that on-screen title rule corner that is probably the original title it should be. Still, it feels odd when all marketing (hashtag campaigns excluded), all reviews and the official site are using the long title. But I guess I will eventually accept it as I tend to do with most official TMDb decisions. Here I would still like one more opinion before deciding.

Fresh from watching it, I concur that the Soviet Union is such a minor plot point that it doesn’t deserve a mention in the outline. The Cheetah is a not the actual name of the character it refers to (marketing or fan nickname, it seems) and while there is a character named Max Lord, as he is unknown until this movie, mentioning his name adds no value in an outline.

Here’s my stab at writing an outline you can use that is as specific as I could get without spoilers. I chose my words carefully. Previous commenters who have watched the movie are invited to provide feedback and/or improve it.

“A botched store robbery places Wonder Woman in a global battle against a powerful and mysterious ancient force that puts her powers in jeopardy as it joins with a megalomaniac but failed businessman in his quest to control and own the world.”

I like your outline much better, but I would stop after the word "jeopardy" and forget the rest:

"A botched store robbery places Wonder Woman in a global battle against a powerful and mysterious ancient force that puts her powers in jeopardy."

I think that sums up the movie's main theme perfectly.

Can we go ahead now and replace the synopsis? @lineker , when you get a chance?

This one?

"A botched store robbery places Wonder Woman in a global battle against a powerful and mysterious ancient force that puts her powers in jeopardy."

I haven't seen the movie, but I trust Janar. thumbsup

Yes, that's a good edit of mine. ;-)

Now fixed. Thanks. Closing topic.
