Discuss The Towering Inferno

Every since watching Towering Inferno, I've been unable to work in high rise buildings. I've actually turned down jobs that were on the 20th floor.. The max for me was the forth floor.

Did this movie bother anyone else?

It didn't make me fearful of high rises, since I grew up in a small town where there were none. But I saw your post, remember this movie, and thought I'd pop by to say I recall when this first aired on network t.v., when I was in my mid teens, not long after it had completed its theatrical run. Back during the mid '70s, this was one of seems like a handful or so all-star disaster blockbusters. For some reason, Jennifer Jones is who I most remember being in this. Odd, since I don't think her role was actually one of the more significant ones!

I rewatched it again just recently. Jennifer Jones actually had a substantial part, compared to a few big names which were just fleeting scenes.

(POSSIBLE SPOILER "RECOLLECTION" FOLLOWS)

I may be thoroughly mistaken in my memory, but does Jennifer Jones' character fall down an elevator shaft or the such in this movie, or am I mixing her up with someone else about that occurrence? (Or did no character fall down an elevator shaft?) When I think of J. J. in this film, I for some reason just automatically mentally picture her on the left side of a shot, standing by an elevator door or an open elevator chute, and - for some reason - my "memory" tells me that something bad then happens to her character. I haven't seen this movie in probably 40 years, so very well may be superimposing a mental Inferno picture of J. J. with something that happened with an entirely different character in either this or perhaps some totally other movie.

You have a pretty good memory for a movie you saw so long ago. You're pretty close. She falls from a scenic elevator on the outside of the building.

I was pretty disappointed that she wasn't one of the survivors because she was a heroin (in my eyes). I really like her in that role.

I never saw any of her movies in her later years. Towering Inferno was her last movie before retirement.

I'm surprised I still remembered anything about that character's fate, considering that - oddly - I actually don't think there's anything whatsoever else about the movie that I'm now able to recall otherwise.

I always have very much liked Jennifer Jones.

I haven't seen this movie but I'm interested in watching it. Out of curiosity, which is the better movie, this or Earthquake? Both are on my watchlist.

I don't really have any problem with high buildings, but I did really love this movie. I am sure it is a bit lame if I watched today, but I watched it long ago as a kid, several times, and always loved it. I really love disaster movies but that one in particular really impressed me.

I haven't seen Earthquake. IMO Towering Inferno is definitely worth a watch.

I second this.

I watched this in the theaters and was very young. I was entranced by the movie.

The only actor I recognized was OJ Simpson.
