This new pledge drive special premiered on PBS last night. It's enjoyable, and rich in nostalgia, as it includes a bounty of great Christmas radio hits of the 20th Century (primarily 1950s through '70s), performed, via clips from various past t.v. holiday specials, by a memorable array of top star singers from "back then".

Included are performances by (and in most cases the complete songs, rather than just partial-song clips) Andy Williams, Bing Crosby, Perry Como, Johnny Mathis, Brenda Lee, Eddy Arnold, Nat King Cole, Judy Garland, Mitch Miller and the Gang, Gene Autry, Jimmy Boyd, the Supremes, Rosemary Clooney, the Lennon Sisters, Burl Ives, Mahalia Jackson, Mitzi Gaynor, Julie Andrews, the Beach Boys, the Carpenters, Jose Feliciano, the Drifters, Ronnie Spector, the Harry Simeone Chorale, and David Bowie.

This is a very pleasant wander down memory lane, featuring the songs that you've all throughout the years, each holiday season, heard play, performed by these artists, on the radio. Even now nearly twenty years into the present century, a great many of these vocal renditions continue to be played on radio stations throughout each Dec.

No doubt PBS stations will re-air this new special a number of times in the coming weeks and years. Anyone ages 45 and up (and surely also many who are younger than that) definitely will enjoy watching this.
