Discuss Forbidden Planet

Is it actually the 15- or 1600s as this film is a retelling of Shakespeare's Tempest-- with Morbius and Altair subbing for Prospero and Miranda. Or is this the 1950's with the characters looking and sounding forever like we did back in the 1950s with hairstyles and attitudes. And is the very military in the film even somewhat symbolic of the US military that had just fought communist mass--murdering, invading North Korea ( see my postings) just a few years previously? Or is this what it outwardly most seems to be-- a projected and conjectural look at the life of people centuries in the future?
