Discuss Captain Salvation

Despite that it was released 93 years ago, this well-done, thought-provoking film continues to hold up. It doesn't feel at all creaky or dull.

The close to ninety minutes fly by as you become thoroughly engrossed in all that's transpiring in the solidly told and well-realized story. I recommend this movie, without reservation, to anyone who's a fan of Silent cinema or simply of terrific movies in general. I'm pretty certain that even someone who normally doesn't think they'd care for Silents, or even for black and white films, would enjoy and fully get in to this one.

The poignant and honest performances by leads Lars Hanson and Pauline Starke, in this all-around perfectly cast treasure, are searing and heartbreakingly spot-on. This is one of just two or three Silents that has ever managed to choke me up and bring tears to my eyes. The fallen woman character (Starke) particularly makes a strong impression. The movie conveys a strong sense of time, place, and of genuine feeling.

I believe that anyone who gives this film a try will be impressed by it.

My rating? 8 out of 10. I definitely recommend it.
