Discuss Robert Armstrong

It seems that in 1935 he did a Warner Bros. with Allan Jenkins and there is a 1935 WB blooper reel with the two of them in it. I previously wrote about Fay Wray in no bloopers. She and Armstrong of course did King Kong together!

I just last night saw him in The Son of Kong that aired on MeTV's Svengoolie broadcast.

Robert Armstrong and Allen Jenkins appeared in several movies together.

This is a scene from "Sweet Music (1935)":

Dopey knocks out Barney.

Good to hear!

  • And speaking of Robert Armstrong, Fay Wray, Bruce Cabot and the rest of the Kong cast,

  • In other King Kong-related "news," we already know of Kong and Son of Kong, and Fay Wray and Bruce's Cabot's starring with Robert Armstrong in the original, but he also stars in with good giant baby ape

  • Mighty Joe Young (1949) as Max O'Hara, starring Terry Moore, and in

  • The Most Dangerous Game (1932) as Martin Trowbridge, starring Fay Wray and Joel McCrea

  • But look at this....

  • The Penguin Pool Murder (1932), stars Edna May Oliver as Miss Hildegarde Withers.

  • Murder on the Blackboard (1934), stars Edna May Oliver as Miss Hildegarde Withers, who...

  • Co-stars with James Gleason as Inspector Oscar Piper, a high-ranking homicide detective in the New York City Police Department.

  • Gleason plays the role of Inspector Oscar Piper in all 6 films in the series....

  • Miss Oliver plays the role of Miss Hildegarde Withers in the first three films....

  • Robert Armstrong appears as suspect Barry Costello in The Penguin Pool Murder (1932).

  • Bruce Cabot appears as suspect Addison Stevens in Murder on the Blackboard (1934).

  • Hildegard Withers filmography...

  • The Penguin Pool Murder (1932), starring Edna May Oliver

  • Murder on the Blackboard (1934), starring Edna May Oliver

  • Murder on a Honeymoon (1935), starring Edna May Oliver (based on The Puzzle of the Pepper Tree, 1934)

  • Murder on a Bridle Path (1936), starring Helen Broderick

  • The Plot Thickens (1936), starring ZaSu Pitts

  • Forty Naughty Girls (1937), starring ZaSu Pitts

  • A Very Missing Person (1972) (TV film), starring Eve Arden, with Julie Newmar. Based on Hildegarde Withers Makes the Scene (1969), completed by Fletcher Flora after creator Stuart Palmer's death

  • (1950s lost TV sitcom pilot) Amazing Miss Withers, starring Agnes Moorehead and Paul Kelly

  • And then there's Robert Armstrong's guest starring in a television series...

  • "Lassie and the Grand Canyon" (Season 08, Episode 01, 1961), which stars...

  • June Lockhart as Ruth Martin

  • Jon Provost as Timmy Martin

  • Carl Benton Reid as Richard Bliss

  • Robert Armstrong as Oliver

  • Leonard P. Geer as Trail Guide

  • Lassie as Lassie *

  • Here, when Paul takes a farm business trip, Ruth takes Timmy and Lassie in the truck to visit Arizona's Grand Canyon as part of her "See America First" campaign, chaired by old family friend Park Ranger Oliver. (What could possibly go wrong?)

  • At the Canyon, the family meets classical pianist Richard Bliss, who offers insights into the scenic geology. Ruth and Timmy initially cannot tell that Bliss is blind, but Lassie can clearly see the light.

  • While Ruth speaks with Oliver above the canyon, they overhear Bliss' outstanding keyboard instrumental recital from within the lounge even though they still cannot figure his sight-challenged condition, whereas Timmy is ordered to lock Lassie into the kennal because pets are not permitted to roam wildly around this National Park.

  • Timmy, therefore, decides to take a mule ride tour of the snowy inner canyon, with a careful Trail Guide, who leads several tourists on mule-back, descending the treacherous trail, or at least until they become stranded at a shack part-way down the rocky ledge.

  • Will Lassie be able to spring from the kennel cage to rise to the occasion? Or will she somehow make matters worse for Timmy, causing his shame over her?

  • And what about when Timmy reaches too far from the rim of the Grand Canyon, to find himself stuck in a very, well, dangerous position?

  • Will the blind pianist be able to locate poor Timmy?

  • Will Lassie be able to come to the rescue of the pianist, who's not afraid not to see, but who's trying to rescue Timmy, who's afraid to look to the rocks and river far below?

  • Either way, will Ruth and Oliver be able to find out whether or not Timmy makes up with Lassie over this dangling cliffhanger episode?

Go to YouTube + put in quotes " Things you'll never see on screen ( Warner Bros bloopers 1935)". Jenkns is standing in same shot as Armstrong at 5:39.

That scene is from "Sweet Music (1935)".

The scene that follows (I've already posted it on this thread before):

Dopey knocks out Barney.
