Richard Wayne „Dick“ Van Dyke (* 13. Dezember 1925 in West Plains, Missouri) ist ein US-amerikanischer Fernseh- und Filmschauspieler, Entertainer und Komiker. Weltbekannt wurde er durch seine Hauptrollen als Schornsteinfeger Bert in Walt Disneys Mary Poppins (1964) sowie als Caractacus Potts in Tschitti Tschitti Bäng Bäng (1968). Mit seiner The Dick Van Dyke Show erlangte er in den 1960er-Jahren in den USA große Popularität, in den 1990er-Jahren feierte er mit der Krimiserie Diagnose: Mord (Diagnosis Murder) ein Comeback.

Richard Wayne Van Dyke (born December 13, 1925) is an American actor, entertainer, and comedian. His award-winning career has spanned seven decades in film, television, and stage. Van Dyke is the recipient of multiple awards, including a Golden Globe, Tony, Grammy, a Daytime Emmy, and four Primetime Emmys. He was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 1995 and the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2012. He was honored with the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award in 2013, the Kennedy Center Honors in 2021 and was recognized as a Disney Legend.

Van Dyke began his career as an entertainer on radio and television, in nightclubs, and on the Broadway stage. In 1961, he starred in the original production of Bye Bye Birdie, a role which earned him the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. Carl Reiner then cast him as Rob Petrie on the CBS television sitcom The Dick Van Dyke Show from 1961 to 1966, which made him a household name. He went on to star in the movie musicals Bye Bye Birdie (1963), Mary Poppins (1964), and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968), and in the comedy-drama The Comic (1969).

Van Dyke also made guest appearances on television programs Columbo (1974) and The Carol Burnett Show (1977), and starred in The New Dick Van Dyke Show (1971–74), Diagnosis: Murder (1993–2001), and Murder 101 (2006–08). Van Dyke has also made appearances in the films Dick Tracy (1990), Curious George (2006), Night at the Museum (2006), Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (2014), and Mary Poppins Returns (2018).

Si Dick Van Dyke avait tenu quelques petits rôles auparavant, c'est à la comédie musicale Bye, Bye, Birdie et à son adaptation cinématographique en 1963 qu'il doit sa notoriété. Un an plus tard il se fait connaître du grand public en jouant dans le film culte signé Disney, Mary Poppins. Il enchaîne alors les rôles dans des comédies tels que Fitzwilly (1967) ou Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968) et jongle avec une carrière télévisée en participant à de nombreuses séries dont le culte Dick Van Dyke Show ou encore aux côtés de son fils Barry Van Dyke dans Diagnostic : Meurtre de 1993 à 2001.

En 1990, il joue dans le film de et avec Warren Beatty Dick Tracy aux côtés de grands acteurs tels que Al Pacino et Dustin Hoffman. Ne s'éloignant jamais des univers enfantins, Dick Van Dyke prête sa voix à plusieurs personnages d'animation comme à Tubby le Tuba en 1976, au Commissaire Gordon dans Batman : New Times en 2005 et à Mr Bloomsberry dans Georges le petit curieux un an plus tard. La même année, il incarne Cecil Fredericks aux côtés de Ben Stiller dans la comédie de Shawn Levy, La Nuit au musée.

Il reprend son rôle culte de Dawes dans Le Retour de Mary Poppins, la suite du premier film, produite par Disney en 2018.
