do you think they ever went back to Triacus to get the landing party they left there?

kirk beamed a new landing party into space. he then tried to beam up the landing party that was originally there. when no one beamed up, that's when kirk and spock realized they were no longer in the planet's orbit.

at the end of the episode, he sets course for star base.

I do believe that that scene is cut out on some networks.

Certainly true; Chris is right, there still is a Security Team on Triacus. That should set the stage for "Star Trek VII: Return to Triacus."

The Children's biggest mistake was sending Chekov to arrest Kirk; like he ever had any chance.

I was more concerned that they didn't follow up, in the Enterprise series, with the ship that Archer stole the warp drive components from. Those people were looking at a very long trip back home as a result. It would have only taken maybe 10 seconds for someone to say something about how a Xindi Aquatics ship was sent to pick up those people and get them home quickly.

It would have taken days to ask those Xindi Aquatics and would have taken many days more for them to deliberate, reach an agreement and answer back those Aquatics are like The Ents in LOTR.

But he wouldn't have done it himself. Archer would have handed that off to like the Xindi Primate (played by Tucker Smallwood) that followed up after Degra was killed.

Pitty Degra died I liked his character and the actor playing him .but the impression I got from those Aquatics was as long as it doesn't serve their interests or threatens their existence they don't really care.Plus it would take some visualisation to get them to agree.

Well it DID save their (the Aquatics') existence, since it wouldn't have been possible for Archer to meet with them and then defeat the Sphere-Builders, if he hadn't stolen the parts from the other ship. Compared to the other things they did and risks they took, giving that other ship a lift home is quite small. Plus it seems they might have learned a little about prompt action from Archer already. They did make up their minds about some rather serious issues in record time, according to Degra and/or the Primate, once Archer made his case.

But mostly I just thought it was a more notable omission than the idea that they didn't go back to Triacus and pick up the security detail.

Well I think the whole point of the episode was that they had run out of time and the urgency to get to the meeting to have a chance to save Earth (and billions of people) and those living in The Expanse(more billions of species)proceeded all rules of morality and that desperate times asked for desperate measures(Archer has quite a discussion about this with T'Pol who disagrees where he says something like that the lives of billions matter more than that of single crew at this moment at that later is the time to judge the morality of it all I don't believe actually says it but it´s in the line of Spock's speech on the "needs of the many") .And who is not to say that after they defeated the Xindi reptiles and Sphere builders they went back to the ship gave them back their Warp coils (and some compensation) and let them go on their merry way,in the overall story it's a very minor detail which the writers probably rely that Trek fans would assume that after all that mess was over they went back to make amends.

As for the landing team the same of what I wrote above applies here as well the writers assume that the regular viewers would know that Kirk would go back and pick up those men.Because they don´t show it(an episode can only be as long as 45 to 50 min ) doesn´t mean it didn't happen it's just a minor detail in the overall story. It would be the same as showing the whole departure landing of a shuttle every time when they visit a planet.

Maybe it's because TOS was more episodic than Enterprise was, especially at that time. Thing is, we "know" what happened to Enterprise after they destroyed the spheres: the Aquatics took them back to Earth. Basically immediately, especially as these things go. It would have taken them perhaps days or longer to go back and return the equipment themselves etc, then return to where the Aquatics would take them to Earth. But there wasn't a noticeable gap between those events, in the show. Unlike at the end of "And The Children..." which, like most other TOS episodes especially, had no direct continuity link to the next episode. There could have been days, weeks, or months in between. But defeating the Sphere Builders and then returning to Earth, all took place within the episode "Zero Hour" and there really was no time allowed for a side trip.

TOS more episodic ? season 3 of ENT was the most episodic season of all Trek It was done to give that season drive and sense of urgency for dramatic purposes(a story telling device later copied successfully by the reboot of Battlestar Galactica) ,the whole point of the episode was not whether the story of the Crew of that ship they boarded was important to the overall story of season 3 it was done for dramatic purposes you are making a fuss about things that are ulterior in the overall scheme of things it would be like complaining about that we don't see Mudd get arrested before his later adventures in I Mudd. And just because they didn´t went back to save that crew doesn't mean that they didn't send out a call and asked others to help them and the Aquatics have more than one spaceship so maybe another went to rescue them.

But that was really my point too: they didn't have to SHOW it, but considering that there was no "open time" during that sequence of events for Enterprise to have done it themselves, whether mentioned or not, they could have taken 10 seconds for Archer or someone to say that those people they stole from were being taken care of. And something like sending an Aquatics ship to get them home in a day - like they did for Enterprise - would have been appropriate considering what they had done to those people. Just giving back their equipment would still have left them with the original time requirement to get home, weeks or whatever.

Heck, maybe they wanted to create an opportunity to do a Star Trek Enterprise movie called Wrath Of The Illyrians. laughing

Just caught a smidge of this episode yesterday. Don't remember ever seeing it.

Will have to give it a look see.

Sounds like one of those "heavy-handed" message episodes that this show did so well.

Caught the episode...

All I could think was: "Hitler Youth": Brainwash them while they are young, and you'll have this generation...and all the nexts...to do your bidding.

I can see why it comes in 3rd on the list of worst TOS episodes. The critics site Shatner's performance as the primary cause of the low rating. But, if I were going to point the finger at anyone, it would be the director...and, of course, that cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzy set!

Although I must admit Captain Kirk's 'unintelligible voice' scene was imaginative and kind of neat.
