Discuss Star Trek

Overlord Dicktor Van Doomcock is the only Kurtzman critic left. He warns that the season three of "Star Trek: Picard" is a trap.

. Picard Season 3 Is Just More Kurtzman Trek in a Trojan Horse | Here's My Picard Review S03E01

His former allies, who were also against Kurtzman and his Secret Hideout, disregard this warning and now shun and ridicule him.

They love season three of "Star Trek: Picard" and Terry Matalas. The Fandom and the doubters are happy and willing to accept Kurtzman's NuTrek and his shows now.

. "I'm loving it, I'm loving it."

. "It's sooo good..."

Side notes:

It seems like this 'divide and conquer' tactic by TPTB has succeeded. Secret Hideout and Bad Robot have won the Star Trek Culture War.

Or can this Kurtzman-Abrams time line we live in still return to Roddenberry's time line?

wonder2wonder--

For me, as I suspect for you, Star Trek died after Deep Space 9 (and Enterprise). I don't watch any of the new shows, nor have I seen any of the Abrams Trek movies. The trailers for all of them-- the shows and the movies --were enough to turn me off.

I think what "classic" Trek fans have to come to grips with ("classic" defined as, roughly, 1966 - 2004), is that everything post-2004 is "New Trek" for a new, younger generation. Basically, the same realization that "classic" Star Wars fans have had to make: that the newer movies and animated shows just aren't for the "older folks" (there are exceptions, such as 2016's Rogue One, which admittedly was fan service for the older generations anyways).

I am intrigued, however, by the concept of a Quentin Tarantino Trek film, long-rumoured, but who knows if it will ever be.

I agree. relaxed

I loved Star Trek (2009), which has the distinction of being the only Star Trek movie to win an Oscar (Star Trek Beyond should have gotten the Oscar for Best Hair and makeup instead of Suicide Squad. The makeup job for Idris Elba's character was amazing). I also loved Star Trek Into Darkness, which as everyone knows is the Kelvin Timeline version of Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan. I really liked Benedict Cumberbatch's performance as Khan. I was heartbroken to see that Buckaroo Banzai had turned into a bad guy, and that the Kelvin Timeline version of Captain Christopher Pike was killed. As for Star Trek Beyond, I was disappointed. When I found out that Idris Elba was going to be in the movie, I was thrilled! I adore Idris Elba, and I was so happy that he was going to be in a Star Trek movie! I was also glad to see the actress who played the UN diplomat in The Expanse as the Commodore in charge of the Space Station. And I thought that the way the movie handled letting Kelvin Timeline Spock (and the audience) know that Prime Timeline Spock had died was respectful. Other than that, that's all I have to say about Star Trek Beyond at the moment. I bought the DVD out of respect for the first 2 Kelvin Timeline movies, and I'm going to try to watch it occasionally, because the makeup job in the movie IS truly OSCAR WORTHY. Maybe it will eventually grow on me. It's happened before. I used to hate The World Is Not Enough when it first came out, but with the exception of Denise Richards, it's now one of my favorite James Bond movies.

Disclosure: I love Quentin Tarantino, but I think that him directing a Star Trek movie is a very bad idea. 😔
