Oh my! I thought the finale of The Third Man, with the scene in the sewer, was great. But a year before, in 1948, another great film, He Walked by Night, also had a sewer finale that looks quite a lot like the one in Third Man. I wonder if Carol Reed was aware of this? An "homage" perhaps?

Anyway, He Walked by Night is a darn good police procedural, with the cops tracking a cop killer / mass murderer. It reminds me of Day of the Jackal in some ways, too.
