Discuss The Island

I thought this movie had a great premise and a great start, then got impatient and started showing car chases and explosions. A little more patience and pacing, and I think this could have been a great one.

They should have removed all the typical blockbuster elements and just stuck with the suspense.

Bay could not hold his nerve and went to his default setting.

I really liked it smiley

Agreed. If they move the "reveal" back about 30 minutes in the film, it gets infinitely better.

Still... i think a lot of aspiring sci fi directors could learn a thing or two from Bay about the importance of having a visual style and making your movie feel tangible...

They should've filmed Michael Marshall Smith's "Spares" which they had an option on instead. Similar plot, but much better.

Or just watch Parts: The Clonus Horror. It's the exact same movie as "The Island" without the blockbuster action.

Welcome to a Michael Bay production.

I agree the car chases were too long.
