Martin Lamotte made his directorial debut with this French comedy. Building contractor Patrick is unaware that Helene, his wife for 15 years, intends to celebrate their wedding anniversary with a surprise party. She's invited friends and relatives to spend the weekend at their blue house. Elsewhere down the road, at an identical blue house, Patrick and his other love, Elizabeth, the mother of his two-year-old daughter, are planning an engagement party for the son of their neighbor. Neither woman knows about the other, and this sticky situation requires Patrick to rush back and forth from one blue house to another throughout the evening. The story is told in flashback by Patrick -- from his hospital bed.

Patrick est un homme comblé. Chef d'une prospère petite entreprise de construction, il est marié à la charmante Hélène, qui lui a donné deux beaux garçons. Par ailleurs, il entretient une liaison avec l'une de ses voisines, Élisabeth, et partage son temps entre les deux femmes. Une gymnastique parfois compliquée, pour ne pas dire éreintante, dont il s'accommode tant bien que mal. Jusqu'au jour où sa tendre épouse se met en tête de lui faire une surprise et convoque en catimini parents et amis pour fêter leur anniversaire de mariage. Or Élisabeth compte justement sur Patrick pour l'accompagner aux fiançailles du fils de son voisin.

Der Bauunternehmer Patrick (Sam Karmann) weiß nicht, dass Helene (Catherine Frot), seine Frau seit 15 Jahren, beabsichtigt, ihren Hochzeitstag mit einer Überraschungsparty zu feiern. Sie hat Freunde und Verwandte eingeladen, das Wochenende in ihrem blauen Haus zu verbringen. Anderswo auf der Straße, in einem identischen blauen Haus, planen Patrick und seine andere Liebe, Elizabeth (Co-Scripterin Carol Brenner), die Mutter seiner zweijährigen Tochter, eine Verlobungsfeier für den Sohn ihres Nachbarn. Keine der beiden Frauen weiß von der anderen, und diese klebrige Situation erfordert, dass Patrick den ganzen Abend über von einem blauen Haus zum anderen hin und her eilt. Die Geschichte wird in Rückblende von Patrick erzählt - aus seinem Krankenhausbett.
