One thing that pissed me off about the ending of Shrek is that i wish Fiona who was a cursed human could had turned back human like she wished and wanted when she has found true love at last with Shrek, then Shrek would still accept her as a person and for who she is and she would still accept him for who he is and as a person. But NOOOOO she gets to be remain an ogress and i don't like that. Same thing for the ending to James Cameron's Avatar (aka Avaturd) is that when Neytiri found Jake's true self and accepts him for who he is. I mean the tree could had at least healed him to make him walk and still remain human even to magically breath the atmosphere and eat the things on the planet, but NOOOO he gets to turn into into a Na'Vi.

They are all racist in undertone in mainstream bigotry. Xenos (alien folks from other worlds), anthros (you know animal-like humanoid beings like Minerva Mink from Animaniacs to Bojack Horseman characters and furry artwork), mutants (even X-Men and Marvel's) and magical creature beings (ala mermaids or ogres or gargoyles or something like that) do not represent the "inferior" beings always as sometimes they are portrayed in stories or in some mainstream media. They represent "people who look different" metaphorically in fiction (even if Xenos do actually exist on other planets and anthros exist in another dimension with us humans as i believe in alternate dimensions) and some should be accepted as people as humans are not the only people around as there is life out there in the universe. Plus in fiction anthros, mutants, Xenos and magical creature beings are people too and some humans accept them in some stories or TV shows or animated shows or video games or comics. Me and one of my comic artist/regular artist pals Hattonslayden who is a good artist (he draws human males with nonhuman females like anthros or xenos or magical creature folk and mutants) who are both the same age and were both raised/taught (his parents taught him, as for me it was TV shows/movies like Beauty and the Beast TV show from the 80s with Ron Perlman/Linda Hamilton to Mighty Mouse all new Adventures's episode Littlest Tramp where a human man marries a lovely blonde anthro mouse woman to Alien Nation the series to X-Men TAS to Splash and more which all have some human X nonhuman person romances to my big brother and my teachers to one of my mom's boyfriends) not to be a bigot or racist to anyone who looks different than us white folk even by the surface nor by deformed people or ethnicity and all to treat them all with respect even as equals with different skills/abilities. Him and I hate bigots, racists, double standards (especially when we find them in ourselves) and when people act like their own "negative stereotype".

We both don't like Avataring or Shreking or other transformation stories used to side step the "we look different from each other so we cannot accept each other." to me with him that is the same as taking the classic "Guess who's coming to dinner" from 1967, if you are unfamiliar with the movie it is a story where a African-American man is dating a white woman and she brings him home to her parents and the movie centers around them learning to accept that he is a valid human being and only a person as he is not inferior by his skin color. So "Avatar" and "Shrek" is like "guess who's coming to dinner" where the main protagonist magically physically changes his race to suit the parents and therefore they don't have to accept anything. Or if the white woman magically turns into a black woman to suit the parents of the black man to satisfy their notions.

Hmmm. I must admit that at first, I was going to dismiss your post as one of those rants where people take every opportunity to use the race card against something that is popular. Upon reading your entire post, I realize that's not the case at all. It's very thought out and you argue your position quite well. As a writer, I appreciate that very much.

I'm also a white man who was brought up not to be a racist or bigot, and I hope to heck my parents were successful in that challenge--which it certainly is in this world. I think they were. With that in mind, I did not sense any racism or bigotry in this movie. Perhaps I am naïve, but to me Jake decided to become a Na'vi simply because he wanted to. I don't think it had anything to do with Neytiri's parents or how others in the clan looked at him. I think he felt his relationship with Neytiri would be more beneficial to the both of them if he became one of them. I mean, right off the bat there is no physical issue with him being four feet shorter than her. If he wants to plant a quick smooch on her, he doesn't have to do a high jump to do so! :) That scene where Neytiri found Jake in the chamber and accepted him as a human was very touching and emotional. It choked me up. I think that was a way to show us she would accept him no matter what he looked like or what species he was. To me, that was the complete opposite of racism. I think Jake fell in love with the Na'vi people so much, he truly wanted to be one of them. And perhaps part of it was he was so disgusted with what humans had done to the people and the planet, he wanted to shed himself of humanity.

I just saw the movie for the first time yesterday, so my initial impressions sans heavy pondering are fresh in my head, and racism and bigotry never crossed my mind.
