云南西双版纳的傣族小学生岩罗和岩甩是好朋友。他们听了刀弄大爷讲的在大森林中有一头神奇红象的故事后，被深深地吸引住了，他们约好在暑假里一起到森林里去寻找红象。刚进入密密的原始森林，警觉的岩罗就发现后面有人跟踪。原来是傣族小姑娘依香牵着猎狗--那罕，悄悄地跟随而来。她也是听了红象的传说后，想来揭开这个谜。大森林真是一个美丽、奇妙的世界！这里有许许多多的奇花异草，也有各种活泼的动物。在这里，有让孩子们陶醉的美景，也有令他们害怕的东西。在这里孩子们可以大开眼界，增长知识。只是大森林有大森林的"规矩"：所有到这里来的人都必须热爱这儿的一切。这样，他才会得到大自然的盛情招待。可是淘气的岩甩就不懂这个"规矩"，他一看见美丽的马鹿，就忍不住开了枪，惊动了森林中的其他动物，朋友之间的关系也经历了波折。终于，他们找到了红象。可是，他们眼前的红象太厉害了，很粗的大树它轻轻..

In the southwest frontiers of China there lie many luxuriant forests where live a great variety of plants and animals. Three kids of Daizu minority is told by a granny that a red elephant which is the symbol of God lives in the forest so in a summer vacation they go into the forest to look for the elephant and finally they discover the secret of the elephant.

Au sud-ouest de la Chine se trouvent de nombreuses forêts luxuriantes où vivent une grande variété de plantes et d'animaux. Trois enfants de la communauté Daizu se voient raconter par leur grand-mère qu'un éléphant rouge, symbole de Dieu, vit dans la forêt. Pendant les vacances d'été, ils se rendent donc dans la forêt à la recherche de celui-ci et découvrent finalement son secret.
