Roma.During a clash between demonstrating laborers (whose fight the students have joined) a policeman and a student are both killed. The investigating magistrate - in charge of the case with two commissioners - wants to believe to the version of the police: the student was killed by one of the laborers, while the policeman would have been killed by Massimo Trotti.

Un jeune homme, étudiant en architecture, participe à une manifestation sur la voie publique. Durant celle-ci, un membre des forces de l'ordre trouve la mort.

Italien, Anfang der 1970er Jahre. Während einer Studentendemonstration kommt es zu Ausschreitungen. Sowohl ein Student als auch ein Polizist verlieren bei den Krawallen ihr Leben. Richter Aldo Sola wird mit der Untersuchung beauftragt. Im Fall des toten Polizisten scheinen die Dinge klar auf der Hand zu liegen, zumal es bereits einen Hauptverdächtigen gibt. Dann aber muss Sola erfahren, dass sein eigener Sohn in die Tat verwickelt ist. Der erfahrene und integre Jurist gerät in einen moralischen Konflikt.

Во время выступления студентов один из фашиствующих полицейских чинов – судя по всему, прицельно выстрелил в одного из митингующих, а потом спокойно уехал. Причем убийство он совершил на глазах других своих сослуживцев. Однако эта провокация, имевшая, по-видимому, две цели - запугивание студентов и закручивание гаек – вызвала неожиданную реакцию. Увидев, как убивают его товарища, приходит в ярость и, схватив первую попавшуюся под руку металлическую болванку, наносит удар по шее ближайшему полицейскому, отправив того на тот свет.
