Best thing about this movie is the men's clothes. Even Bud and Lou make George Clooney look like a tramp. Not particularly funny, tho noteworthy for being Abbott and Costello's first appearance together on film. William Frawley has the only moments in this movie that actually made me laugh out loud. But Abbott and Costello and William Frawley don't pop up often enough to save the film, which is a real low energy affair with little heart or effort. Any time someone talks to you about the 'Golden Age of Hollywood' it is worth remembering that it was mostly production line efforts that nobody remembered a month after they were released. Including this stinker.

You have to realize that in 1940 TV's weren't even a thing yet. Movies were where people went for weekly entertainment, so the industry cranked out enormous amounts of them. As you said, most weren't very good but audiences back then had little choice of entertainment. According to Wikipedia, it took all of five weeks to film.
