People of color are at the very heart of the story of jazz music. A story that begins in Africa where my people were KIDNAPPED and ENSLAVED by white oppressors. What was once a PROUD tribal tradition was the only connection that my ancestors could keep to their African roots. From the fields to the night clubs it was my brothers and sisters that spawned the only truly original American musical invention. My peoples oral traditions have been appropriated by RACIST Hollywood where they now WHIP our metaphorical backs in order to milk money from OUR culture. This is a DISGRACE and a TRAVESTY and never has my heart sunk as hard or raised as fast as watching them win and them have their award snatched from their greedy racist hands and given to a film that truly deserved it.

John Legend isn't a real brother. He allowed himself to be exploited and forced to play the minstrel. He picks at those WHITE piano keys as my ancestors once picked COTTON. His presence only adds insult to the injury.
