Discuss Arrival

It seemed like a normal and average movie about aliens that could be rated as "entertaining" BUT the final 10 minutes where I could finally understand that the flashbacks were actually flashfowards had me loving the movie. Bravo! I was really kinda bored so I loved this plot twist.

Yeah, it's kinda like memory from future (mentioned in Childhood's end) but in this movie, the female character can comprehend the nonlinearity of time as she completely study the alien language (so there's no before or after 'coz time is nonlinear). Sapir–Whorf hypothesis at its extreme stretch.

But why could she see the future from the beginning of the movie before she even met the aliens or figured their language?

I think because the movie screen time only tell you what happens and it's up to you to interpret those occurrences. The order/sequence that you see is only direction of time that normal for you and others but from view point of someone such as Heptapods or Louise there'd be no before or after... those events are equal in their eyes.

Pondering this question brought on a migraine, but I was able to grasp the concept (for about a fifth of a second.)
