Sigh... a rare megabudget movie that dares to be thoughtful and take its time to unfold and it will now have the stigma of a huge flop. Depressing news for the few - the majority can just go out and watch Thor a third time.

Some of us can only hope that 2049's performance at the box office will, indeed, prevent a third Blade Runner film from being made.
I don't say this because I disliked BR 2049-- in fact I thought it was very good. No one asked for a sequel to Blade Runner, and, in my humble opinion, sequels for any genre of film made more than 10 years or so after the original film are generally creative failures.
But not with Blade Runner 2049. Amazingly, in this case, lightning did indeed strike twice.
But can it strike three times? I just don't think so-- even if another BR film was released relatively quickly (say within the next five years) by the same director.
Rudely Murray, you are right that this last film, like the original, was thoughtful and took its time to unfold.
But would a studio be willing to finance a THIRD such very expensive film, which, based on the performance of its predecessors, would also lose money (at least during its theatrical release)?
Or would the director be pressured to make a more profitable, fast-paced straight-up action film, followed by many others, by different directors, thereby diluting the franchise?
I fear that this is in fact what would happen.
So I hope no other Blade Runner films are made. Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049 are fine as a two-film group.
Just my opinion.

I have to agree with northcoast on this one. BR2049 was indeed not only as good as the original but IMO is actually better. The chances of them not messing up a third installment is very low especially after the dismal box office. The studio will be inclined to tailor it to suit the majority population as they drag their jaws through the streets like common simians. We just have to face the fact that general audiences are not interested in having to think when they go see a film. They have been thinking all week at their dismal jobs, can't they just go to a movie and watch someone get the shit kick outta of them in them peace? Gosh! All this thinking and philosophying. It's for the birds I tell ya! I needs 'plosions! I need to see someone get shot in the face! (And I love John Wick too BTW). I can't help but think of that scene in Idiocracy when the cops make Swiss cheese outta Frito's car and while it is happening a crowd of people are gathering around cheering and fist pumping including Frito himself. Oi vey. Here is the scene
You think Einstein walked around thinking everyone was a bunch of dumbasses?

Well, movie theaters are on the way to go the way of the Dodo if you catch my drift. This is why they have to charge such exorbitant prices for concessions. There are even talks about releasing movies straight to pay per view as it is getting increasingly popular to simply stay home and watch stuff online. That way you don't have to deal with pee stained seats, maze like roads, and having to deal with the neaderthals that frequent those places. Although I am not sure how many people would be willing to pay $50 a movie ticket. Unless of course you invited a bunch of people over and have them pitch in. Sounds like fun actually.

Most people are now cutting the cord since you can now get channels ala carte directly on the web site. They then use Roku or Apple tv to add the channels to watch in the bedrooms and living rooms. Yeah, unless cable TV starts offering ala carte instead of making you pay these high prices for these channel bundles where you do not watch most of them they will also go the way of the Blockbuster. Like if I seriously only had to pay for the channels I was interested in would have like 15 channels in my bundle.

Umm... Cinemas are going the way of the dodo because an elderly, curmudgeon on here is complaining that the sound effects in a theatre is too loud lol. I think the future is bright for cinemas, just because you may not like what's on release doesn't mean the majority will vacate cinemas because of you.

Umm, apparently Wall Street disagrees with your assessment that "the future is bright for cinemas" .

The turnout is apparently diminishing in the States only and a lot has happened in since August 3rd from Netflix's side.

Meh, they do but you have to watch A LOT of online videos before they would throttle your interwebs to the point where it annoyed you. Keep in my that they do not watch your bandwidth because they think you are circumventing them by ordering stuff ala carte directly from web sites. They are monitoring the bandwidth because they want to make sure you are not using your internet connection to run a business to which you must pay an extra fee for.
I thought you lived in a major metro area? I live in the burbs and I get 2 options at the moment. Spectrum (local cable providers) and ATT U verse (which is what I use).
Netflix killed the DVD rental stores. Whats so funny is that the early developers of Netflix approached the big wigs at Blockbuster offering then a huge percentage if they backed and funded the project and they TURNED IT DOWN. (fkn dummies)
Who's laughing NOW!

Yep, whether you said it or Ronald McDonald said it, it is still the stupidest thing I've ever heard who goes to a cinema if you have sensitive hearing...

Uh, film fans? Surely you can see the appeal of watching a film on the big screen no? Would you miss the chance to see your favorite band live because you have "sensitive hearing" ? I doubt it.
Besides your comment about elderly complaining about it being too loud is actually contradictory to my experience. Most old people I know have the damn volume up way too much on account they can't hear for shit.

I thought you lived in Houston nearby it. Remember you mentioning flooding with HARVEY.
That is a big reason why. Also inconsiderate people who bring newborns and babies to adult films. Too bad you can't turn on the CCs instead.
Please tell me you are joking cuz if so that is too damn funny. They have been having that cell phone message for YEARS. Its almost to the point where I CAN'T remember when they didnt have it. Pre-2006 thereabouts.

I'm currently trying to get every film noir movie Netflix has in their collection but was surprised to find out that you cannot get The Lady From Shanghai on DVD. Not a great film but still want it.
You know since you showed me that link for The Woman in the Window I have found out that you can find really old movies in their entirety on you tube. Currently watching this:

I love old movies and old movie stars. I get it when the old timers say "Their ain't no REAL stars anymore."

It’s hard to really say, 2017 was a prettt damn good year for movies but attendance seems to be down. I think audiences were just so disappointed the last couple years that they shyed away hopefully the trend of enjoyable movies continues and audiences return...
